Why do we love New Mexico?

Why has New Mexico, and, in particular Las Cruces, remained my home for my entire life. The people, the places, the things (to do that is).  This is one of the few places on the planet where you can snow ski in the morning and play beach volleyball on White Sands the same afternoon.  It is a place that is blessed with a valley that runs along the Rio Grande and produces vegetables and nuts that bless our tables year-round. From pecans to green chile, asparagus and onions, we grow some of the world’s best food. The flavors are as lively as the people. Our population is a spicy blend of many ethnicities sprinkled into a Chicano and Gringo base that has stood the test of time and thrives in tough times and celebrates the best our state has to offer.

Your only decision, when coming to our town is whether or not you are a valley person like the Lunas in Rudolpho Anaya novel Bless Me Ultima or a desert rat, more interested in open vistas that capture our Organ mountains in the pink, reflections that are cast upon them by a sunrise or sunset.

This is a Land that likely moves slower than the one you came from. If you want to slow down for a moment and take in what life truly wants to offer, come to Las Cruces and be enchanted.

My wife Katie and I would love to help make that happen.

Sincerely,
C.J. Pierce
